Behind the Music: Aerosmith

The train’s still rolling for Aerosmith 30 years after they left the station, and now the band is helping VH1’s Behind the Music kick off its fifth season. Sex, drugs, and rock’n’roll account for the success of this series, and, in that way, Aerosmith fits the bill perfectly. This special two-hour edition balances the usual yesteryear clips against current backstage footage, highlighting that the band—no matter how freakish-looking—is still rocking out after all these years. The classic drug-indulgence themes are here again, but what makes this profile stand out over the likes of Styxx and Journey in the VH1 world is the testimonials; everyone from Slash to Run-DMC praises Aerosmith as a major influence and the very definition of rock from early on. Not bad for five (formerly) drug-addled boys out of Boston.
