Despite graphics culled from the first season of The Real World, these people aren’t strangers. They’ve actually been competing against each other since childhood—and many of them come in with existing rivalries. The six-week-long series Boarding House throws together seven world-class surfers—from a married 33-year-old to a 21-year-old who uses the cameras as his pick-up line—in an insane beach house right on the water as they battle through the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing in Oahu. Some of them are tightwads geeked up for the competition (former champions, ugly girls), and some of them sport the more familiar Spicoli ’tude (up-and-comers, hot chicks). But don’t worry; instead of another reality gag featuring spoiled ingrates bitching about their improbably lavish digs, these guys have to go out and prove themselves in three of the most heavily contested surfing competitions of the year—then face their opponents at home each night. Besides the eye candy that is Roxy surfwear model Veronica Kay, there’s plenty of awesome surfing footage and even some brutal fisticuffs. For those of you who think surfing is all fun and games and pretty girls, you’re right. So live vicariously through the WB. Hell, it can’t be worse than the time you tried it with The Gilmore Girls.
