D.L. Hughley: Shocked and Appalled

If you were shocked to hear that the return of Chappelle's Show has been placed on indefinite hiatus, you'll be appalled to learn that D.L. Hughley is gearing up to take over as the new face of Comedy Central. Fresh off the network's announcement of Hughley's late-night talk show, the former sitcom dad headlines his own stand-up special armed with enough jokes about dumb kids, dumb whites, and dumb celebrities to fill three more seasons of The Hughleys. What's worse, most of the material picks up right where Hughley's last episode left off…in 2002, relying on cracks about a barely-alive (at the time) Pope John Paul II, a boob-baring Janet Jackson, and a pre-anklet Martha Stewart. Though there are a few highlights—Hughley comes out apologizing for Soul Plane, noting that he had to cash his check wearing a ski mask—Shocked and Appalled is just an old routine dusted off to serve as a warm-up act for his new gig.
