Futurama (Season 3 Premiere)

Futurama’s been compared to The Simpsons since its debut. Both shows overflow with satire and non sequiturs, but The Simpsons revolves around a world we recognize and characters that reflect us. Futurama’s main characters are shallow losers in a universe of random silliness. Most people love one or more Simpsons characters, but who really cares if Fry gets turned into Soylent green (the fictional, human flesh–derived snackfood)? Even so, who says you have to love them to laugh at them? Bender the alcoholic, suicidal robot—easily the show’s best character—gets to shine in the third season’s Halloween-themed premiere: By the light of a full moon, he turns into a homicidal “Werecar” destined to kill his best friend. Fry gets insulted that Bender doesn’t try to kill him first. Try not to laugh—we dare you.
