When we first heard there was a new show on Versus called Fanarchy, we thought, "Uh, what?" Then we learned that the show will be "a fast-paced, loud-mouthed and interactive sports talk (or argument) show that delivers real fans via their webcams and lets them battle it out in a fun and frenzied back and forth." OK, now we get. Sort of. So we tracked down the show's host Zach Selwyn to get the lowdown on Fanarchy, which premieres June 7 on Versus at 11 PM ET.

With the rambunctious sounds of his 3-year-old son seemingly beating the crap out of him in the background, we spoke with Zach about the show.

So what's the premise of the show?
Basically, super sports fans from around the world who have always dreamt of getting a shot at being on the air and expressing their opinions in a unique, creative, fun way are finally getting a shot. We have seven contestants every show who, via webcam, speak their mind. At the end of the show, I eliminate the two weakest contestants based on what they said and what they did. The next week, two more contestants are brought on, after uploading their own rants at www.versus.com/fanarchy. At the end of the show, whoever had the best showing, gets a minute of "I'm the greatest. The Raiders rule! JaMarcus Russell is all-world!" I hope they don't say that, but whatever they want to say. That's that.

How were the participants chosen?
The original ones were chosen by the network with a casting and screening process. The new ones will be chosen through the Internet. So you upload your video and the fans who are watching the show vote on the best web rants for that week.

Visually, how will this look to the TV viewer, like Hollywood Squares with you in the center? Will ALF be in it?

(Laughs) Oh yeah, we'll have Jim Bullock coming on. No, basically, it'll be me in the studio with the webcammers being piped in, and around me on the screen. So I bring up a topic and go to each one....It's going to be really fast-paced, really fun.

So what happens when you start talking hockey and go to the guy wearing the Raiders garb, and he has no idea what the hell is going on?
The funny thing is, he'll be asked to give his opinion on it, and he could say, "Who cares about hockey? It's all about the Raiders, baby! If the Raiders played hockey, we'd win the Stanley Cup!"

Any tips for how people can get on the show.
First, get off your ass and upload your rants. Secondly, be funny, energetic, and be over the top.

What would you talk about in your submission tape?
We're looking at the NHL and NBA playoffs, and no one is paying attention to anything else. So I would bring up small-time sports like PBR, Professional Bull Riding; or women's field hockey. Talk about Earl Anthony bowling perfect frames on the PBA tour. Eat that!

OK, so here's how we'd set up a video. We'd wear face paint, have a couple of strippers, we'd be strapped with dynamite and a chainsaw. Maybe a midget doing cartwheels in the background. Would that work?
(Laughs) Oh yeah. They might let you host the show.

Looking at the Fanarchy site, I see some faces that are up right now. Are they on the first show?
I'm not sure who's on the site right now, but some of them are on the show. Jersey Joker is like an Arty Lange kind of guy who's all about the Yankees and Knicks. Urlacher(54) is just a Chicago maniac. Violator is one of those Raiders freaks. We have a really, really, really hot girl who I don't care what she says, I just want to look at her.

Is she in a bikini, by chance?
Ooh, no, but she's in some low-cut top thing. I expect this first episode will be a little bit tame so we can get it off the ground, but then by episode four, we're showing pasties.

If you could have a show with celebs, like Bobby Knight or Gilbert Gottfried, who would you have on?
Arty Lange would be amazing. The Bleacher Creatures from Yankee Stadium. Spike Lee and Jack Nicholson and let them go at it for awhile. Then get Craig Sager so we could laugh at his outfit. Get a roller derby girl in there. And, of course, Megan Fox.

Were there any other names for the show thrown around besides Fanarchy?
We went through a couple of names. Scrum was one of them. Like a rugby scrum. Then Fanarchy came up and that was the one.

Did you get any weird submission tapes?

Yeah, we got a lot of girls who were like, "I am the best sports talker in the world. You can't mess with me when it comes to sports." Then they would get on camera and be like, "So the Arizona Rams, uh, Cardinals? Um, who did Malcolm Jamal Warner play for?" We'd be like, "You mean, Kurt Warner?" (laughs)

Have you taped a show yet?

No, we're staying current. We're taping the day before each episode airs.

It debuts this Sunday, June 7, but when will it typically be on?
Well it's on once a week, beginning June 7 at 11 (PM ET) on Versus. Then, it'll air on June 16, starting every Tuesday night after Sports Soup at 10:30 (PM ET).
