If those pampered egomaniacs in the NBA nauseate you, you’ve got to catch the streetball documentary On Hallowed Ground. It follows the “Entertainers Basketball Classic” tournament held every summer in Harlem’s legendary Rucker Park, and combines the trash talkin’ style of White Men Can’t Jump with the raw emotion of Hoop Dreams.

Throughout its history, Rucker Park has courted such superstars as Wilt Chamberlain, Dr. J, and Kareem Abdul-Jabar. The current players—with nicknames like “Captain Nappy” and “Whole Lotta Game”—are either on their way to the NBA or Rucker lifers. They defy gravity once they step on the asphalt and taunt the hell out of their opposition. This isn’t about b-ball fundamentals. Hallowed Ground celebrates natural skills, talkin’ shit, and the making of playground legends.
