The fact that animation runs humor circles around any live-action sitcom is nothing new (The Simpsons have ruled the roost for years, and relative newcomers King of the Hill and Family Guy are more entertaining than anything out of either Will or Graces mouth). And now Cartoon Network has quietly produced a string of shows that take it even further. Their Adult Swim line-up proves that a steady diet of pot makes for some good TVSpace Ghost: Coast to Coast, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021and that things dont have to make sense to be funny.
One of their newest additions (not counting the two promo episodes that ran last season) is Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law and its one of the funniest things weve ever seen. Essentially the old Hanna-Barbara superhero Birdman reimagined as a lawyer who takes on cartoon-related cases (in the season premiere, he defended Shaggy and Scooby-Doo after theyre arrested on suspicion of marijuana possessionsensing a pattern here?), Harvey Birdman defies any other categorization. The only thing we can say with certainty is that its hysterical. Stay up late Sunday night and treat yourself.
