Insomniac With Dave Attell

Dave Attell does everything you don’t remember having done in college for a living. Sure, it’d be nice to have that gig, but for now you’ll have to settle for tagging along. The one-hour, fourth-season premiere of Insomniac brings all the after-after-hour debauchery of a regular episode to Amsterdam by way of the seven deadly sins. Making various confused-looking foreigners spin the “Wheel of Sin”—think Wheel of Fortune with a bearded Vanna—Attell sets off to find out “what’s illegal in this town” by indulging in pride, envy, gluttony…er, read your Bible. There are the live sex shows (“What do you guys do when you get home?”), the red-light district prostitutes (“What’s Dutch for premature ejaculation?”), and the coffee shops (look out for the “demon weed.”). Attell can make the most unlikely situations funny and ratchets up the laughs here with plenty of non-English-speaking victims. All of the American fun, none of the oppressive U.S. law enforcement. The blinking neon signs point to another unmemorably hilarious season from the king of late, late…late night.
