What’s more overdone than the generic crime novel? Why, the Sunday night TV movie adaptation of the generic crime novel! Follow homicide inspector Lindsay Boxer (Tracy Pollan) as she teams up with a recent one-night stand (Gil Bellows) and several overzealous female coworkers—who form the “Women’s Murder Club” (très empowering!)—to track down a killer who preys on honeymooning couples. All the classic TV-special clichés are here: murder scenes devoid of all violence, the killer’s silhouette inexplicably engulfed in shadow until the inevitable climax, and quick close-ups on stunned expressions just when something’s about to happen. There’s plenty more to complain about, but shouldn’t you really have stopped reading after “Women’s Murder Club”?
