Andy, we hardly knew ye. Andrew McCarthy resurfaces from wherever he and Mare Winningham have been hiding out to guest star in the season finale of NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit next Friday.
Decidedly more haggard than the scrubbed, winsome preppy of Pretty in Pink and St. Elmo’s Fire, McCarthy plays a sadistic, domineering lawyer, suspected of abusing a fresh-off-the-boat Romanian immigrant. He’s lost the baby fat but found some acting chops, digging into his creepy character with an obvious relish.
In other good news, SVU has just been renewed for a second season. Maybe they’ll give Jon Cryer a call.
