We like watching Wesley Snipes beat up on white men who can’t jump or put a blade to bad-guy vampires. But give him a serious movie role heavy on the dialogue, and we’re snoozing. Snipes’s Joe wants revenge on the manufacturer of the gun that killed his daughter, so he concocts a plan in which he sets up as a sniper—yep, Snipes playing a sniper…’cause, you see, his name…ah, forget it. He traps gun peddler Liberty Wallace (Linda Fiorentino) in the middle of a public park with no real plan other than to continue threatening her and killing those around her. Somehow, bodies dropping dead all over the place don’t draw any suspicion until near the end of the movie, and we’re left with an hour-and-a-half discussion between Liberty and Joe that leads nowhere. Liberty can’t bring back Joe’s daughter, and Joe can’t find solace in anything except…shooting random people? Good answer, Skin-emax.
