It’s hard to base a sitcom on a struggling band; the need to constantly replay its lone demo recording throughout the trials and tribulations of each episode only makes it worse. Throw in the fact that you have to because the show’s star, Oliver Hudson—son of Goldie Hawn, brother of Kate—wrote the song, and you have My Guide… Spliced together haphazardly enough to cause seizures, the show plays like a sequence of bad music videos—with attractive characters attempting witty banter in between musical montage. On the other hand, Hudson’s mother is played by B-movie queen Shannon Tweed, so it’s got that going for it.
