Raising money for disease research is no laughing matter (unless it’s cancer…good luck beating that one), so seeing some of today’s—but mostly yesterday’s and last week’s—stars turn out to benefit The Autism Coalition on NBC’s Night of Too Many Stars was promising. Unfortunately, most of them left their A-through-D games at home. Watch in horror as Adam Sandler sings inappropriate lyrics over friendly acoustic guitar, Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon prove they can’t be separated, and Dana Carvey dusts off the Church Lady. The show soars with Conan O’Brien’s emceeing, Jack Black’s tribute to the opera, and David Spade’s reprisal of “Hollywood Minute,” but it takes an unceremonious pratfall with an appearance by Kevin Nealon. Thankfully, Nealon is quickly saved by comparatively uplifting facts about the devastating effects of autism.
