Paul Rudd on “SNL” Almost Makes Us Like One Direction

Almost.

Paul Rudd hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend with musical guest One Direction, and while we admit to fast-forwarding through the “music,” several sketches featuring the band kind of made us not hate them.

First there was the monologue, in which Rudd was joined by 1D and his Anchorman castmates Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, and David Koechner, for a rousing acappella rendition of “Afternoon Delight.” That clip isn’t online, presumably because NBC doesn’t want us to have nice things. But that’s ok, because it wasn’t as hilarious as this pre-recorded video bit in which Rudd plays Dan Charles – One Direction’s biggest fan.

Joined by a gaggle of tween girls as they wait backstage for the band to emerge following a concert at Madison Square Garden, Rudd proves that he can still play a creep just as well as he did in Clueless. The highlight comes when he yells, “When I say ‘1D’ you say ‘rection’!” to a room full of underage girls.

Check out the clip below, and then try to predict how many times SNL will attempt to crack wise with a dated BigLebowski joke on this Saturday’s episode, hosted by John Goodman.
