Inspired by 1950s sci-fi movies, Creature Features is a series of four original films featuring monsters and the people who fear/create/become them. “She Creature,” the first in the series, relates the tale of a carny couple who kidnap a mermaid only to have her show her wrath by lunching on their friends. At times, the dialogue and effects are a bit contrived, but that was the beauty of old monster movies, and it still works. More involved than Tales From the Crypt, but lighter than a John Carpenter movie, Creature Features is great for the whole family—until, of course, your youngsters start complaining about their killer mermaid dreams. Then it’s just funny.
