New Blood for Buffy

Sunnydale’s embattled undead population will face another menace next season on the Buffy. But details about the new character and the actress who recently won the role are as mysterious as any dark art.

What we know so far: The new character is named Dawn, she’s between 10 and 15 years old, and Buffy will take her under her wing as a kind of surrogate kid sister. She will also have some supernatural abilities of her own.

“Yes, we’ve cast somebody,” says a source at the show, bracing for a brisk round of 20 questions. Is it somebody we know? “You’ll definitely recognize her.” Would we know her from the show? “No.” Do we know her from TV or the movies? “Movies.” Is the actress approximately the same age as her character? “Yes.” Will the character develop a crush on Xander at any point this season? “Where do you get this stuff?” The New York Post. “Oh.” Is she blond or brunette? “Are you kidding? This is L.A. You never know that from one minute to the next!”

We’ll bother our source again next week, when the Buffy cast returns from hiatus to begin shooting the fifth season.
