Where do TV shows get their studio audiences? In the case of The Ainsley Herriott Show, attendance was often part of a reduced prison sentence agreement with California courts. But many other shows distribute free tickets through Audiences Unlimited.

Representing more than 30 sitcoms, talk shows and game shows, this Los Angeles service distributes free tickets up to a month in advance. You can get a single ticket to Daddio, if you’re a really creepy loner, but most shows accept advance reservations from organized groups of 15 or more. And if, while preparing to laugh yourselves silly at Jamie Foxx’s wildman antics, you got just a bit too drunk to drive, many studios will provide free transportation to and from the studio for large groups.

Most sitcoms resume production in August, but real connoisseurs know that pilot season—April and May—is the best time for free TV tickets. If you’re lucky, you can see some of the worst shows ever produced. Many of them are so bad they’ll never even make it on the air. Call Audiences Unlimited at (818) 753-3470 for more information. —John Walsh
