The latest made-for-cable game show, Beat the Geeks, pits pop culture experts against everyday Dicks and Harrys. However, the title is a little misleading, since the resident geeks (TV, Movie, and Music) and specialized guest geek (Comic Books, Star Trek, etc.) receive much more difficult questions. Therefore, the contestants can’t really beat them, they can only succeed at their own rudimentary level and feel good about themselves because they get medals for “winning.” It’s sort of like the Special Olympics, but without the retarded kids.Whether or not you enjoy Geeks largely depends on if you like game shows and if you’re into pop culture. (We don’t think the molecular biology geek made the cut.) But, if you curse Ben Stein for making his show too hard and need a self-esteem boost, Geeks may be for you.
