British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen boasts enough personalities to keep Mariah Carey calmly strapped in her containment cradle, and Da Ali G. Show puts them all out there to annoy and entertain. Featured are Ali G (thugged-out journalist), Borat (slow-witted TV reporter from Kazakhstan), and Bruno (effeminate Austrian fashion reporter)—and each brings his own unique brand of obnoxiousness. Ali G’s Ebonics need work, but he compensates with hard-hitting questions for former Attorney General Richard Thornburgh like “What is legal?” followed by the uncomfortable silences said questions demand…followed by the painfully thoughtful responses they provoke. After all, making people uncomfortable is not only fun, it’s American. And now, apparently, British as well.
