Instead of simply half-heartedly rehashing the original Battlestar Galactica with updated special effects, the Sci Fi Channel is shooting for the stars by shoehorning the classic series into a shiny new space suit. It starts the same: Man-made Cylons have wiped out all existing human colonies, leaving just the few survivors aboard the Battlestar Galactica. Only this time, the Galactica is a traveling museum suddenly thrust into battle, with its most recent captain (Edward James Olmos) and an unsuspecting crew manning the outdated ship. The sweetest twist? The Cylons are led by the otherworldly Number Six (Tricia Helfer) in place of her stainless-steel ancestorsclearly an improvement. Unfortunately, the two-part, four-hour miniseries spends more time healing emotional wounds than it does battle scars, and the drawn-out character explorations will only wind up driving sci-fi geeks back to reruns of Mork & Mindy.
