TNT throws its low-budget hat into the crime ring with a mob family potboiler that should wind up snorkeling with the fishes when all’s said and rerun. Chris Noth returns to the televised police ranks as undercover FBI agent Mike Tozzi, who is in too deep and hankering to get his Law & Order job back. He’s got a paranoid partner on the outside, an on-again-off-again girlfriend on the inside, and a maniacal, chainsaw-wielding mobster (Robert Patrick) on his backside. Through it all, Tozzi handles each predicament with a quirky sense of humor that results in the movie unfolding scene-by-scene like a cheap, made-for-TV Pulp Fiction. (But with more Jimmy Hoffa jokes!) You’ll find a couple of chuckles hidden deep within the action, but forgettable casting choices (mob boss duties go to a bespectacled Elliott Gould) and the worst action sequences this side of TBS conspire to land Apple in the pen.
