At a time when the Big Apple was mourning, New Yorkers first looked to mayor Rudy Guiliani, then quickly proceeded to the Yankees for leadership and support. And they almost delivered against the Arizona Diamondbacks in one of the most dramatic World Series in history. Nine Innings From Ground Zero avoids partisan politics and touches on each unbelievable moment in the 2001 World Series as the Yankees and their fans coped with the impact the 9/11 attacks had on their lives, their city, and their country. Those interviewed include family members of the victims, Yanks Derek Jeter and Paul O'Neill, manager Joe Torre, Giuliani, and even President Bush. Additionally, the film uses footage of the recovery efforts just nine miles south of Yankee Stadium to juxtapose the grief felt around the world with the hope that only America's national pastime could offer. It may not be controversial, but this is definitely a 9/11 documentary worth catching.
