Damaged people make for entertaining drama (see Love, Courtney), but they rarely come wrapped in a package as nice as Rachel Nichols. The former Maxim swimsuit model stars as Rebecca Locke, a rookie profiler who joins the FBI's Los Angeles Violent Crimes Unit after a series of murders leads to the death of one of their own. Naturally, her seasoned coworkers are curious about the hot young rook and uncover some serious baggage—but she's not alone. Each profiler has been hand-picked by his or her boss because they hold unusually dark secrets that enable them to penetrate the minds of ritual murderers. Sure, the psychological metaphors are a bit contrived at times, but The Inside's mixture of grisly murders, dark drama, and, most importantly, intriguing characters, distinguish it from your typical detective drama. Finally, a crime show willing to admit that the criminals aren't the only twisted characters roaming the streets.
