Stephen King stories are as hit-or-miss as World Cup officiating, but he somehow manages to churn out enough quality yarns to override the duds. That bodes well for this multipart quasi-miniseries based on eight different King short stories, and that's where their connection stops. In some episodes, such as the one in which Steven Weber stumbles into Rock'n'Roll Heaven, Nightmares is a Twilight Zone with a moldy sense of twisted humor. Yet in the episode that features Henry Thomas as an inventor, King's black wit has fangs. An adaptation of the horror master's work is often a sure bet, but this time, choose at your own peril… [Insert eerie music here]
