Jericho, Kansas may be the last U.S. town standing after a nuclear explosion, but at least the Packers won't have to force Brett Favre to retire. After years away, Jake Green (Skeet Ulrich) returns to his sleepy hometown just as a mushroom cloud appears on the horizon, plunging the town into chaotic darkness and consuming panic. The townies fight to survive, but the uncertainty of the explosion's cause and total impact allows the simple folk to snap, causing the dreary, slow Kansas pace to build rather than hinder suspense. Although explaining the end of the world is a mouthful of a foundation for bent-toothed Ulrich and company to chew, the reactions to apparent oblivion are kept as honest as possible short of 45 minutes of hysterical shriekingthe same reaction Green Bay fans will have when they miss the playoffs again.
