Minnie Driver has a southern drawl and Eddie Izzard does his best Midwestern accent—both of which sound more convincingly American than Madonna—in F/X's latest stab at unrestrained drama. The two aforementioned Brits and their three children are con artist gypsies. When opportunity presents a way out of the life, they assume the lives of a high-society family, the Riches. Using gypsy skills (beaded necklace weaving, stink), the new Riches try to defraud their way onto easy street. But, like this shaky premise, nothing is simple. Although fingers are crossed for a clever spin, characters wallow in hyperbole, from Driver's cough-syrup addiction to her son's dress fixation; presentation falls short of quirky and lands closer to overkill, like wearing both a Dallas Mavericks ball cap and a jersey.
