Since everyone's pretty much accepted that the days of sitcom genius are long gone, CBS is hoping viewers will settle for a comedy about geniuses. Enter The Big Bang Theory, the lovable kid brother to cocreator Chuck Lorre's Two and a Half Men. The show follows math whizzes Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) as they try to repress their nerdiness in hopes of bagging the blonde next door, Penny (supercute Kaley Cuoco). The show is at its best when the two (and their even dorkier pals) wave their geek banner highest, providing plenty of laugh-out-loud one-liners that hit the mark and some excellently executed social awkwardness. On the downside, some of the nerd references feel a bit forced (Klingon Boggle, Star Wars shampoo), and there is no real dialogue, as every line is always a setup for a coming punch line. Even so, there is enough here to entertain; and if the series continues to grow as Men did, CBS might have a Big hit on their hands.
