The Skinny: Smoking, binge-drinking, promiscuous police detective Grace Hanadarko (Holly Hunter) solves crimes in Oklahoma City despite (or perhaps because of) a ton of emotional baggage (lost a sister in the Oklahoma City bombing, molested by a priest as a child). Oh, and she sees and talks to an angel regularly.

The Good: Grace may share a network (and a twangy accent) with The Closer, but this show is clearly the edgier of the two. Picking up from the season one cliffhanger, we find Grace struggling with whether or not to kill Father Murphy, but not before taunting him with her gun (and a raunchy little dance number). Hunter isn't afraid to let herself go, which really sells Grace's recklessness on and off duty.

The Bad: There's too much going on in the season premiere. While we're given answers about Grace's kidnapping errand, she also finds herself under investigation after chasing down one of the FBI's most wanted while off duty (and perhaps intoxicated). And there's old Earl the angel who's always flapping his wings where they don't belong.

Down Boy! There are plenty of ways to punish a pedophile priest, but Grace's method is terrifying. Let's just say there are better ideas than having a steak on your lap around a pit bull.

Watch, Ignore, or Read a Book Instead? You should already be watching The Closer. No need to take your hand out of your waistband to change the channel.
