Space and time travel dominate the returning favorites on this week’s TV schedule. Sophomore year at Roswell starts October 2, and Isabel (galactically babelicious Katherine Heigl) is having a tough time of it. “Isabel can’t pretend like she’s a normal high-school girl anymore,” the actress says. She and her fellow space castaways have begun to hone their unusual abilities, and it’s none too soon—G-men and evil aliens were closing in on the kids in last season’s finale. What’s in store for the opener? Taking a page from the George Lucas press relations manual, the WB Network is mum—all we know is a series regular is going to get bumped off.
Now, set the wayback machine, Sherman. October 3 finds the pukka-shelled scamps on That 70s Show under virtual house arrest, as Kitty quits her job to be a stay-at-home mom. Oh, well. So much for the latchkey kids’ unsupervised rec-room antics, huh? Shyeah, right! It’s a smart move for this consistently clever sitcom, throwing more roadblocks in the teens’ paths. But even if the normally sharp writing hits the skids this season, they’ve still got Laura Prepon in hip-hugging bell bottoms. That should carry them through 2002.
Meanwhile, back in the Delta Quadrant… Capt. Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and the intrepid Voyager crew have infiltrated the Borg collective. As Star Trek: Voyager’s final season opens October 4, Susanna Thompson returns as the Borg queen and dukes it out with good Cap’n Kate. Later this season, watch for lots more biting and scratching as the much-abused, long-suffering Lt. Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) ratchets up his romance with Klingon rough-sex enthusiast B’Elanna Torres.
Uh-oh. If those two settle down and raise a family, are we headed for Star Trek: Preschool?
