On paper, this show is absurd. A secret unit of the Chicago police force (apparently they have a surplus budget for laser guns) tracks down monsters. No joke. Of course, this being TV, you cant just say monsters. There has to be a scientific explanation, so what we call monsters are really Darwins Missing Links. Got it, Scully?
Thankfully, no one asks the viewer to take this very seriously. The show keeps its tongue planted firmly in its cheek. Its clear that Special Unit 2 wants to be the Xena: Warrior Princess of the X-Files set. Sure, SU2s got potential (and a good soundtrack), but theres nary a buxom warrior queen in the bunch. Sorry, but Carl the Gnome just doesnt do it for us.
