The most innovative comedy about eating disorders since America's Next Top Model, Starved will have you gorging on guilty gags. The half-hour sitcom stars four starving souls, each trying to fill his or her sad, hopeless life in the Big Apple with some sort of substancein this case, food. The friends regularly meet at an eating disorder support group, followed by a subsequent binge at a local diner, where they discuss their problems and learn to overcome what ails them. Though they often find themselves in preposterous situationsgood times include competing over body fat percentages with a cancer survivor and breaking up with a girlfriend while she's inserting a colonic tubethe characters are still believable. And that's why it's so much fun when this cast of oddball hurlers vomit on the homeless, vomit in their homes, and even vomit out their asses. It may sound crass, but Starved's brilliance is in the way it baldly defies political correctness and proudly presents eating disorders for what they really are: primetime entertainment.
