Rather than let music interfere with programming, music television networks like MTV and VH1 have found new and uninspired ways to fill time between Noxema ads. But where MTV harasses talentless nobodies into humiliating themselves, VH1 recruits second-tier comedians to try out new material, the latest riffing courtesy of Stupid and Stupider, an investigative report on the dimwit movie genre. Behold as Darrell Hammond, Kathy Griffin, and, naturally, Dee Snider hem and haw on the movie magic that spawned Wayne’s World, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, and Dude, Where’s My Car? Unfortunately, notable stupid movie catch phrases like “Excellent!” and the Beavis and Butthead snicker provide the only relief. The rest of the hour is filled with repeat spit takes and rules like “A bonehead’s bright ideas are always dim,” at which point an I Love the ’80s marathon starts to sound pretty good.
