The Winner

The comedies on Fox in the early '90s were more of a collection of halfhearted pandering to the least common denominator than full-fledged sitcoms. But we loved them regardless. The Winner recalls the simpler days of Get a Life, where scripts were polished with spit instead of put through a machine and acting was implied but never promised. Thirty-two-year-old Glen Abbott, played baldly by Rob Corddry, still lives with his parents and his only friend is junior high student Josh. Together the two try to figure out how Glen can score with Josh's hot mom. As this is a brainchild of Seth MacFarlane, conventional situation comedy is out the question. Like early Fox, this won't win awards, but it should win a space in your schedule.
