Venom One

Snake bites are pretty scary and unpredictable—sometimes they’re life-threatening, sometimes they just leave a harmless mark. The Venom One paramedic unit, the only one of its kind in the United States, treats all of these cases from its base in Miami. Venom One takes us along with the special unit’s founder, Al “Big Cobra” Cruz (their nickname, not ours), as he fields different emergency calls. The documentary gets some good footage of his team at work—trying to corral an eight foot Boa, treating swollen bites, the occasional false alarm—but slows down during the staff member profiles. Even with these breaks in the action, Venom One provides enough entertainment to keep that copy of Anaconda on the shelf.
