Wingspan is ideal viewing for the Paul McCartney fan. And by fan, we dont mean someone who occasionally listens to the Beatles or owns the Spies Like Us 45. We mean someone who sits outside McCartneys window on Christmas morning, sobbing to himself and cursing the restraining order.
This two-hour special tells the story of McCartneys post-Beatles band Wings and his young family from 19701980 through conversations with his oldest daughter, Mary. Although its easy to enjoy the bit about the downfall of the Fab Four, and play air guitar to Live and Let Die, the rest of Wingspan is a little too oppressive for the fair-weather fan. The endless footage from home videos and TV appearances will make a great live-action scrapbook for McCartneys immediate family, but there was no need to put it on prime time.
