The Skinny: Good guy Sam (Kyle Bornheimer) has impregnated longtime girlfriend and soon-to-be fiancée Melanie (hottie Erinn Hayes), but before they can tell her parents (Nancy Lenehan and the excellent Kurtwood Smith) Sam screws up everything with a string of bad luck. Yes, it's Meet the Parents as a TV series.
The Good: It's actually pretty funny. And CBS, despite being the last network that still has successful traditional sitcoms, has gone the single-camera route, which makes watching more fun. We won't give away Sam's blunders, as that's the whole show, but Bornheimer's delivery is what makes it work. At least until it becomes more like Meet the Fockers.
The Bad: We didn't hate Parents (or this show's first episode), but it seems like the series isn't going to have anywhere to go after a few outings. Plus, a few of the gags are as predictable as they are ridiculous. And it's on a very crowded Monday night.
Change Your Diaper: As the promos promise, you see Sam in a makeshift diaper when he happens to be without his clothes. Yes, it's stupid, but we applaud Bornheimer's commitment.
Watch, Ignore, or Read a Book Instead? Give it a shot. It's a nice diversion.
