Paul Reubens, our adolescent hero and unlucky peep show patron, has always held a special place in our hearts, and we were psyched to see him return to TV…but not like this.
In a move that could be more damaging to his career than another night on the town with One-eyed Willy, Reubens stars as Troy Stevens on this wacky new game show. Some of the bits are amusing (a mariachi band plays loudly during the final question and is tipped with the contestants’ own money, etc.), but by the second episode, we’d seen it all before. The show’s cheesy trademark lines like, “Let’s cheat—I mean, meet [the contestants] now,” do not age well.
Love ya, Paul, but we secretly—OK, maybe not so secretly—hope YDKJ gets cancelled quickly so you can go back to making cinematic masterpieces like Big Top Pee-wee.
