Victoria's Secret AngelAdriana Lima just found herself in hot water over in Turkey. This July, she was the victim of a video prank in a Miami gym which had her howling like a wolf and repeating some Turkish phrases. Now, the backlash is heating up. For Turks, the video appears to portray Lima saluting the fascist Grey Wolves organization. For the model, it's a big misunderstanding.
According to a spokesperson, a Turkish boxer at the model's gym approached her to film the video. According to the boxer, the hand signal and words he asked Lima to repeat were the names of his local gym. Sadly, that wasn't the case.
The word "Bozkurtlar," is Turkish for wolves. When combined with the hand gesture, the clip shows the lingerie model saluting a Turkish nationalist organization that functioned as a 'death squad' in the 1970s, responsible for hundreds of political assassinations. In 1981 there was even an attempt on Pope John Paul II that left the priest critically injured, all credited to the Grey Wolves.
Rightfully, the people of Turkey were angered to see Lima seemingly in alliance with the organization. "Adriana has no affiliation to any political party in Turkey and unequivocally denies any implied association to these organizations," a spokesman for the model told MailOnline. "She is personally disappointed that her good will was taken advantage of to create a video, — released without her knowledge or consent — that upsets any community."
