Adele’s 25 Sold More Copies in One Week Than Any Album Ever

Find out what it took to break the record.

Turns out that the most recent episode of SNL wasn’t exaggerating with their Thanksgiving-themed Adele spoof showing how her new album 25, with its smash hit “Hello,” is a tie that binds — even while gathered around a holiday table with your drunk uncle, racist grandma, and all the unsavoriness you find yourself elbow to elbow with on any given holiday.

If something uncomfortable or scandalous is brought up, just start humming Adele and it will diffuse the situation. Apparently everyone, and that means everyone, loves her — and the proof is in the pudding. Now that sales numbers have been tallied, 25 sold 3.38 million copies in its first week since it was released, the largest sales week for any album in history.

Adele’s massive sales week has obliterated prior record holders NSYNC, whose No Strings Attached album sold 2.4 million in only four days, and Taylor Swift’s 1989, which, until recently, was all set to claim the highest selling album of the year throne.

Bye bye bye, and “Hello,” Adele.
