WATCH: Eagles of Death Metal Break Their Silence on Horrific Paris Attacks

Jesse Hughes and Joshua Homme reveal grim details of the Bataclan attack.

The Eagles of Death Metal are speaking out for the first time since the Nov. 13 attacks on Paris. Of the 130 deaths, 89 were at the Bataclan concert hall, where an Eagles of Death Metal concert was underway. Though band members escaped through an exit unscathed, the band’s merchandise man and three members of the band’s record company were among the dead.

In a preview for an upcoming interview with VICE, frontman Jesse Hughes and bandmate Joshua Homme break their silence.

“They [fans] were hiding in our dressing room, and the killers were able to get in. They killed all of them, except for a kid who was hiding under my leather jacket,” says Hughes.

He continues, “People were playing dead, and they were so scared. A great reason why so many were killed is because so many people wouldn’t leave their friends, and so many people put themselves in front of people.”

News that the deadliest of the Paris attacks went down at an Eagles of Death Metal concert rocked the music industry. U2 immediately called off a show scheduled in Paris, and Foo Fighters nixed the remainder of their European tour in response.

Recently, Pearl Jam covered Eagles of Death Metal’s “Want You So Hard” at a concert in Brazil.

The full interview will premiere next week on VICE.com.
