Floyd Mayweather Jr. Agrees to Fight Manny Pacquiao on May 2

The richest fight in boxing history is finally going down.

It’s on! The long awaited and endlessly debated welterweight clash between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is set for May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Not only will it be the richest fight in history, raking in an estimated $200 million, but it should finally settle the question of who is the best boxer of his era.

It’s a megabout at least five years in the making, surviving multiple collapsed negotiations that were blamed on disagreements over everything from drug testing clauses to pay-per-view splits. But in recent months, the rival camps have been locked in tense negotiations over the terms of the contract, which were agreed to by Pacquiao’s camp weeks ago.

Mayweather, the highest paid athlete on the planet, made the announcement Friday on the social media site Shots (in which he is an investor, of course) beating a rumored planned announcement of the fight by Pacquiao’s promoter, Top Rank. “What the world has been waiting for has arrived. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done and we did,” Mayweather wrote.

Now the only question is who will win.
