Here’s Why One of the Top League of Legends Players Just Freaked Out on Its Developers

No more League videos for Dunkey.

What do you do when you get banned from the very game you’ve played in hundreds of online videos? You fire back with guns blazing, and naturally you do it on video.

The title of the big kiss off by YouTuber Dunkey, which has racked up 1.8 million views in two days? “I’m Done With League of Legends.”

The video recounts Dunkey’s experiences with League of Legends developer Riot Games after being handed a 14-day ban for displaying what the company called “toxic behavior.” When a surprised Dunkey contacted Riot Games to request that the ban be lifted, he was was apparently told, “No, you’re toxic.”

It’s unclear what exactly Dunkey did to receive the punishment, but in the video, he suggests the infraction was trash-talking other players, something that’s routine in League matches. Dunkey apparently had some harsh words for a player named “Malphite,” whom he accused of “feeding,” or intentionally dying repeatedly to rack up kills for the opposing team.

According to Dunkey’s video, he labeled Malphite “a fucking worthless braindead  scumfuck bastard pile of trash mental dickface that should be gunned down in the street like the degenerate you are.”

“Talking shit is probably one of the only fun parts of this boring-ass game…” he continues, going on to provide a blistering critique of the game itself. “League of Legends doesn’t work as a competitive game or a fun party game to play with your friends.” Reminding viewers that he has played in some 8000 matches, he details every conceivable reason why the game “sucks.”

Dunkey is a popular figure in the League of Legends community, having created numerous hilarious and well-received videos, studded with colorful commentary and bizarre, rambling diatribes, which have resonated well with his fellow players. He says he’ll continue making videos about other games on other systems he feels passionate about, but for now, the community has lost one of its more amusing commentators.

Fans are not happy with the situation, as they made clear on Twitter.

But perhaps the reason for the ban is not so cut-and-dry. When fans inquired about the situation, Jeffrey Lin of Riot Games responded via ask.fm: “We have a zero tolerance policy against hate speech, racism, homophobia, and sexism and that policy stands whether you’re a random player, a pro player, or a YouTube celebrity.”

Lin went on to mention that the game that got Dunkey banned didn’t even have a player named Malphite in it. Lin also pointed out that Dunkey has also chosen not to show his Reform Card, the official notice given to banned players detailing their particular infractions.

They mystery deepens!

Maxim has reached out to Dunkey and Riot Games for comment and we will provide updates when we hear back.
