The Daily Heat Index: Monday, August 10th

A kick-ass classic game nabs a producer, HBO teases a futuristic new series, and we witness a walk that’s out of this world.

Here’s your daily dose of what’s heating up the internet:

James Wan Travels to Outworld

New Line Cinema has tapped Furious 7 director James Wan to produce a new spin on the ferociously brutal video game series, Mortal Kombat. This new take will depart from typical storylines featured in past adaptations and will be much darker and grittier, with a heavy emphasis on martial arts. So just how long until the “Ronda Rousey for Sonya Blade” campaigns start?

Spacewalk It Out

Today, you may not even leave your desk chair, but don’t let your earthly confines stifle your spirit of adventure. This livestream of two Russian cosmonauts taking a spacewalk will undoubtedly make anything else you do today look meaningless. Watch them live from the International Space Station as they install a set of handrails, meant to improve the ease of future spacewalks.

Reality is For Suckers

Here’s your first look at HBO’s upcoming sci-fi series Westworld. Described as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin,” the 2016 series stars Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, and Evan Rachel Wood. If the teaser’s any indication, it’ll be heavy on the creepiness factor.
