Bar Of The Week: Anonymous

Have a little anarchy with your absinthe.

Anonymous Bar, Prague, Czech Republic

It’s not hard to find a drink in the country with the highest beer consumption in the world, but if the brightly lit, smoky pubs and bachelor party-filled strip clubs aren’t your thing, then we think you’ll like Anonymous Bar. Opened in late 2012 in Old Town, Anonymous takes its name and its decor from the hacktivist group. Walls are adorned with Guy Fawkes masks and the backyard entrance is lit by flaming candles. The owner, Filip, may not look old enough to have even read V For Vendetta, but he knows his stuff and has created a bar that serves well-made drinks without the stuffy atmosphere that usually accompanies them.

Order an absinthe, prepared traditionally from their vintage fountain, or try one of their gins with English Fever Tree tonic. The best bit? It’s well enough hidden to keep the bus loads of Old Town tourists away, so the crowd is full of bright, young things – and even when it isn’t, there are plenty of masks to go around.
