The Cubs Have Already Won the 2015 World Series, According to Back to the Future 2

Will life imitate art this year?

The Chicago Cubs are playing for the wildcard spot in the MLB playoffs Wednesday night, but according to Back To The Future 2, the perennial underdogs have already won the 2015 World Series.

When Marty McFly rode the DoLorean from 1989 to October 21, 2015, he was surprised to see that the Cubs had just swept the World Series. And though Back To The Futurescreenwriter Bob Gale wrote the win into the script as a joke — the perpetually losing Chicago Cubs have not won a World Series since 1908 — the gag doesn’t seem quite as far-fetched as it did 26 years ago.

“Whether the Cubs make it or the Cubs don’t make it, the joke will still be funny,” Gale told Chicago’s City Herald. “And if the Cubs do make it, then I’m a visionary.”

Cubs fans are eager to take the decades-old prediction as a vote of confidence for their team, and the Volvo Auto Musuem of Illinois is getting in on the futuristic team spirit by hosting a raffle offering the DoLorean Time Machine as first prize — but only if the Cubs go all the way.

The Chicago Cubs will face the Pittsburgh Pirates at Pittsburgh’s PNC Field in a one-game playoff Wednesday night.
