Leonardo DiCaprio Suffered Tremendously So That We Could Watch The Revenant

It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it.

Lest anyone believe that being a coddled, overpaid Hollywood actor is a cakewalk, Leonardo DiCaprio is here to tell us that the life of a person who gets paid tens of millions of dollars a year to periodically pretend they’re someone else is brutal and unforgiving.

The person who rides a private jet to sleep with supermodels talked about the extreme filming conditions of his upcoming Oscar-nominated filmThe Revenant at a Q &A in Beverly Hills this week. “It was the most difficult film, I think, that any of us have ever done,” he said, according to Variety.

Indeed, it was no picnic for DiCaprio or director Alejandro Innaritu, who spoke of shooting in 30-below-temperatures (really?) which was a particular challenge for him as he is a “tropical man.” DiCaprio explained that the crew often had just 90 minutes a day to capture “the beautiful, illustrious Chivo (aka Emmanuel Lubezki) light,” but spent many more hours outside rehearsing.

On top of his physical suffering, DiCaprio was also tasked with not having to remember many lines. “It was almost like a silent movie performance,” he said.

The Revenant will open on Christmas Day.
