The 2013 NFL Big 5: Week 6

“Which QB is the most miserable?” edition.

The new NFL week is here and with it comes chaos. Fortunately, Maxim is here to help you navigate these uncharted waters with five predictions that will undoubtedly (or just maybe) come true.

Big Upset – Baltimore over Green Bay


We’re riding the Baltimore wave through this week as well. They beat a strong Miami team by adding Ray Rice into the mix in a big way and not letting the bastards get them down (by bastards, we mean just Joe Flacco). The Packers looked only OK in a win over a Megatron-less Detroit, so we’ll put them at about the same level as Baltimore and in that case, home field advantage wins.

Big Performance – Frank Gore


After a slow start to the season, the 49ers RB has busted 80+ yards in each of the last three weeks, and obliterated a tough Houston D line last week. He is really the only think keeping SF over .500 (that and Matt Schaub, of course), and until Kaepernick gets his arm back, he will continue to do it. Because that’s what Frank Gore does.

Big Flop – Rashard Mendenhall


It doesn’t take much of a gridiron genius to tell that the Cardinals’ Rashard Mendenhall experiment is not working. On top of his fumbles, his consistently low yards per rush, and a little unrest with the man in charge, the explosive Andre Ellington is starting to look more and more appealing. This could be the week that the mantle is passed to the youngster.

Big Storyline – Quarterback Hell


Even before last week, we were almost at a point where bad quarterbacks are becoming the majority in the NFL, and that was before Brian Hoyer gave way to Brandon Weeden again, E.J. Manuel went down, and Ryan Fitzpatrick showed that he is truly abysmal. Pundits are already calling a first round rich with QB picks, but until then, an equally light running back year will have to carry the load for the “un”slingers this year.

Big Stinker – St. Louis at Houston


Will Matt Schaub redeem himself, or does he fall behind T.J. Yates on the depth chart? Only one thing is for sure: No one gives a shit about which one of these supposedly good teams goes to .500.
