Sports Beef: Aaron Rodgers Trolls Russell Wilson With ‘God’ Comment

What seemed like an innocent remark may have actually been a pointed jab.

Does God care about football? Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers doesn’t think so and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson does. We know this because the two signal callers had a back and forth about the very subject last season when Wilson credited the big guy upstairs with guiding his team to victory and Rodgers responded by saying, “I don’t think God cares about the outcome of football games.”

Last night, Rodgers brought the issue up again. After his Packers won 27-17 in Green Bay, he said, “I think God was a Packers fan tonight, so he was taking care of us.” Then he smiled like the troll he knows he is.

To the uninformed it may have sounded like the kind of religious remark many athletes make after big games. But those who know Rodgers’ history with the topic and realize he was squaring off against Wilson last night, know he was making fun of Seattle’s ultra pious QB.

Before anyone gets too upset about Rodgers dissing Wilson’s religion though, it’s worth noting that Rodgers himself is a Christian. Where he and WIison differ is in how much they wear their religion on their sleeve. As Rodgers once noted in an interview, he prefers to live by the words of St. Francis of Assisi, who said, “Preach the gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.” Then again, maybe he’s just a dick.
