The Green Bay Packers’ Eddie Lacy Wants a Super Bowl Ring

The former NFL Rookie of the Year talks football, Wisconsin’s weather, and the Packers’ chances of bringing the title back to Titletown.

On the eve of the NFL’s conference finals, in the midst of a 2015 playoffs that has been nothing short of crackling with excitement, we catch up with the Green Bay Packers’ star running back Eddie Lacy, who gives us a little background on how he ended up as Aaron Rodgers’ go-to in the ground game.

When did you realize you were going to be a running back?

I started playing football when I was five, even though I didn’t know how to do it back then. When I first started off, I was little. I didn’t started to get big in high school, but I was always a running back, and I’ve always been hard, too.

Everyone expected you to get taken in the first round of the draft.

Going into the draft, you want to be one of the top guys, or at least get taken in the first round. Especially if you know you’re worth the first round pick. So dropping to the second round, it was very frustrating. But being picked by Green Bay? I’ll take that any day. They are a great bunch of guys, they have a great coach and great staff and everything is just falling into place.

You’re from steamy Louisiana. How do you like living in Wisconsin?

The weather is real rough man. I woke up one day and it was -10 degrees and I was like, ‘Oh my God,’ I don’t know how to stay warm outside! During games, for some reason, it’s different. I may start off cold but then the adrenaline kicks in and the cold isn’t that bad. But walking around and practicing in the cold is rough on me.

So are you guys going to make it to the Superbowl?

Before the season, knowing we’d have everybody back, I thought we had a real shot at being able to make it to the Superbowl. But it was going to take everybody coming in and putting the game plan together. Just going out there and playing as a team. But I definitely like our chances.
