NASA Made a Drone That’s Both Helicopter and Plane

It’s not a spaceship, but it might be the world’s best drone.

Full-sized drones have a fairly insidious reputation, which is why we prefer the wee kind that amateur photographers fly in public parks. With that in mind, NASA has gone full, well, NASA and constructed a ten-propeller drone that can take off in traditional, helicopter-style before transitioning mid-air, with rotating wings, into a small airplane. Essentially, it’s the Harrier Jump-Jet of drones. It’s very cool, highly complex, and not the least bit scary.
